Okay so i bought a laptop 2nd hand was running fine had windows 10 as its OS, decided to do a clean install of windows 10 when doing so i deleted all partions using windows 10 media creation tool then installed windows 10 and it was running perfect. After this i rememberd i forgot to format it after i deleted all the partions on the drive. and i did the whole thing again but this time deleted all partions then formatted the only one remaining (which you cannot delete). (Unknown to me it had a ssd in it) now the laptop runs very slow and like sh*t. and now i cant play games and it gets VERY hot. Its a hgst/hitachi ssd. Now i need to know what to do to repair/fix it. ANY HELP APPRECIATED.

Solution
i think its just playing up now cause you haven't re enabled the raid in intel rapid storage technology. cache = raid 0

The 8gb would show in there anyway, as explained in the HP link about why its only showing that much now.

if you had formatted the msata it would be showing as 32gb, as it still shows as 8gb I think its still as it was before the win 10 install.

Win 10 probably ignored it when you formatted it all cause its too small to really install win 10 on (though I know of people running win 10 on 32gb drives, that is only out of lack of any other choices)

fix is to read the HP link in my last post, it should be all you need to do.

It looks about right. Shame we had to go around in circles about what drives were in your laptop. Wonder if your friend knew it had 2 drives in it, I expect many with the cache drives don't know they are there. Its not obvious on the HP site for your PC so expect not. I know I helped one guy who had one and he had formatted a year before and didn't even know it was there, drive had been asleep the entire time.

in speccy, in the left hand column, choose storage
look under the features heading
an ssd should say: SMART, NCQ, TRIM, SSD
an hdd should say: SMART, APM, NCQ

Now since they both in raid they may not have all the features but the ssd should have TRIM as main difference.

another difference is SSD won't have a recording next to speed (the heading above features) whereas a HDD will show its rpm

do you often stay awake all night trying to fix problems? I try to avoid doing anything on my PC after 2am as by then (7 hours ago) my brain starts to melt and I make dumb decisions. Its probably why this chat is going around in circles :)

I didn't know i could import your speccy info into mine.. it doesn't really help though. 65c on the motherboard, mine is half that... case is a lot bigger though.

just thought, your raid might mess up with results from crystaldisc mark.. maybe.

I too am in Australia and having been awake all night, my brain isn't going to much good for either of us soon :(

32gb says its an ssd. 500gb has a rotation speed.. that is good enough for me

solid state drives don't spin. Your friend didn't change anything in laptop, its how it was when made.

I been drinking coke all night, I can't go on much longer :)

my sleeping pattern has been stuffed last few days but I have had time off so its okay. Have a few days still to fix it up.

I explained the missing space, the difference is used by the intel software to accelerate the hdd and I guess its done in a way that windows isn't aware of it at some level. the disk caching method only works on motherboard with the right chipset so it uses hardware features at a lvl below windows to create the cache for windows to use. I can't run it on my PC as they removed the feature once ssd grew bigger. The 8gb is whats left over, the software doesn't use the entire ssd.

you wouldn't believe it but you cant format 8gb ssd so that's good! but all the rest I woulda formatted then deleted other than one which I coundnt format MSR (reserved) so I deleted it then when they were all deleted I format the entire disk other than the 8gb ssd. and then installed windows 10

But why would windows show the hdd as a ssd??

thats the normal 4 partitions win 10 creates on install. I should have asked why you only had 3 before but was side tracked by the ssd. I only have two myself as win 10 can be convinced to run from one partition if you force it, it later made the 2nd partition during a windows update.

If the drive was 32gb wouldnt it show as 32 instead of 8gb. And if the rest was part of the hdd it would of been formatted = bad. What intel software? Download rapid start technology from hp drivers?

Where in windows is it showing hdd as ssd?

if drive wasn't being used as cache it would show as 32gb or whatever you get for that amount formatted. Because its being used at a hardware level before windows loads, windows only sees the difference in disk management or the installer screen, but that doesn't show anywhere in windows as it isn't formatted and its best leaving it that way.

the intel software is talking direct to bios and having it hide the existence of the other 24gb from windows. That is why it doesn't show its true size anywhere except in crystaldiskmark

its probably tied into the raid set up. part of drive is in the array, it probably locks rest of drive as well. Just let intel software handle it as it will need to learn what software to put in the cache.

I am off, i will look here later but i need some sleep now or i won't sleep again tonight (yes, that makes no sense to me either)
