Help ocing 8600k

Hi, i upgrade today to a 8600k,Noctua D15s and Asrock Táichi but i am so noob and dont know how to ocing my cpu... Anyone can help me?

I want to goal 4.5ghz for example, i have a Seasonic 520 and a GTX 1080 too. The asrock Táichi have many options and i dont know what to change. Thanks for the help

Really? Build a few systems before attempting to overclock? As long as someone wants to learn how to properly do so and has the time then it becomes fairly easy (and fun) to do.

Here is a sticky of everything you need to know about overclocking, the Intel Temperature Guide is what I've used.

You should be able to get well over 4.5ghz with that setup.

As a side note don't use any "Auto" overclocking programs as they usually give the CPU way too much voltage which over time can damage the CPU.
"When tweaking your processor near it's highest overclock, keep in mind that for an increase of 100 MHz, a corresponding increase of about 50 millivolts (0.050) is needed to maintain stability. If 75 to 100 millivolts or more is needed for the next stable 100 MHz increase, it means your processor is overclocked beyond it's capability."

Thanks, i will read that guides. I am little worried because the Táichi have many options for the manual ocing but i will learn i think. My main concern is the voltage. The 8600k have 4.3ghz of turbo, and 3.6 base. If i up to 4.5ghz i have to only add 200mhz and that is 0.10 volt? Or i have to take the 3.6ghz of base clock and that mean that i have to add 900mhz?

I cant ocing ... I dont know what happens , i update the bios to the latest , but when i set voltage , core speed , etc , i save changes , enter windows and the 8600k is still in 3.6ghz , then i restart the PC , enter BIOS and all the options are undone ( but in CPU-Z says that the cpu is a3.6ghz but the voltage that i set in BIOS , windows took perfect ) ...

So i dont know what is the matter right now , all the options save , except the cpu speed

So your overclocking is going to start from the base clock speed and that's were you start making your voltage adjustments but for the first few 100 mhz you may not need to adjust the voltage at all, every CPU is different. Max Vcore for that CPU is 1.4V.

I'm not sure why your overclock speeds aren't staying, take a screenshot of the BIOS screen for the overclock and I'll see if I can further assist you.

Here is a pic with Prime95 run , and the speed dont move across 3600mhz , but if u look in the HWINFO64 in turbo mode says 4600mhz , i dont know what i am doing wrong... I use a Pre Load OC profile of the ASrock Taichi to ocing to 4600mhz ( i set manually before with same results , never past the base speed)

Maybe the problem is that before i have an i5 6500 at 3.6ghz, and i install the 8600k withouth format.. This can be a drivers conflict or that is a no sense? Windows update install all drivers

Did he just say he installed this on a z170 or 270 mb? Cause I thought that is not possible. That is what it sounds like your saying. I assume you mean the AsRock Z370 Taichi.

Windows update may install drivers but they are not always the latest ones. Also Windows update will not install the latest bios. That may be why you are having a problem.

No, before i have an i5 6500 and a b150 board. Now i install the z370 Taichi and the 8600k, and i install the last Bios but i DONT FORMAT... Maybe is that the problem? That Windows think or limit the speed of my 8600k because before i have the I5 6500? Windows recognize fine the 8600k

Well. I format and all is good right now. But now i dont be sure how is the Best settings to ocing to 4.7ghz. I have to disable turbo and set manually the clock speed to 47, that is fine but the voltage i have to put in fixed mode at 1.3 volts for example and do a Prime 95 or Cinebench? And is better that the cpu speed is always 4.7 and voltage always 1.3 for example, or is better to set ( i am not sure is possible) the voltaje and speed in automátic so when the cpu is heavy Load reach max speed and voltage, and when cpu is not Load is automátic set to lower speed and voltage... I dont know what is better... Thanks

You forgot to mention the original poster should put this "CpuSupportsAVX=0" in the folder that says local in prime 95. AVX testing will put too much stress on the cpu and will make it heat up way too high. I learned this from the admin here at Toms.

That adjust you are referring to is called LLC. What it does is stop the vcore from dropping due to it's instruction set saying the voltage is too high. That drop in voltage is called vdroop. Set the llc somewhere in the middle.

One last thing. during stress testing it is ok for the temp to get into the lower 80s as long as you don't stress it for more then 15 minutes or so. The TJMax is set at 100c. That would be the point where the cpu will slow itself down to protect itself. Going above 85c will not hurt the cpu, though it may cause a bit of wear to it.

Well i am now at stables 4.7ghz with a voltage at 1.25 all time, the cpu never drop speed and voltage, so i am sure that i dont activate LCC
.. This can Hurt the cpu or is fine? At idle the cpu is 35 celsius. I do a Prime95 with a guide, so i put it in Custom siz cores, min ftt and max ftt 1344, a check kilómetros in Run ftt in place and time to reach ftt at 15 minutes. I run that test 20 minutes and the max temp was 75 celcius and the average temps 70 celsius
