I'm not sure if this is really a Windows 7 Question or a Displays question but here it goes.

My main computer setup is on a desk in my office, but I have it hooked up to a TV in another "movie room" via wireless HDMI, keyboard, and mouse. I have it setup to use the TV in the movie room as an extension to my office monitor because I want to be able to keep my work up on the office monitor, and have a movie playing for kids on the TV in the other room. The problem comes when I try to open Chrome (or any application for that matter) on the TV using the wireless mouse and a shortcut I placed on that monitor. It will open the application, but on the office monitor, forcing me to walk to the office to drag the window to TV and walk back before I can continue. I found a way to always open an application on the secondary monitor, so I could set Chrome to always open on the TV, but then I have the same problem when I try to open Chrome on the office monitor, because it will always open on the TV. What I need is a way to detect which monitor I'm attempting to open an application from, and have the window open on that monitor. I also need to be able to have two windows of that same application open on both monitors, but still minimize to their respective screens.

Basically I'm looking for a way for both of my monitors to have their own separate desktop environment, but still have the ability to move windows back and forth between them, and obviously still have both monitors controlled by the same computer.

Any and all help and/or creative solutions are appreciated. Thank you very much!

Solution
The only real way of solving this is to say "show desktop on only screen 2".
To do this:
Go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution
Then under the multiple displays tab select "show desktop on only 2"
When you are done in your home theater room go to control panel again and select "show desktop on only 1".

Or when you go to your home theater room you could make display 2 your primary display. To do this:
Go to Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution
click monitor 2 then click "Make This My Main Display"

I am afraid that other than that there is no way to give each monitor their own discrete desktop environment.

Solution
After some more googling I found an application called Actual Virtual Desktops that looks like it will work for what I need. I'll try out the free version as soon as I have a chance, but the full version costs money so if anyone knows of another application that would do something similar but not cost money I would greatly appreciate it.

Ahh, ok.
