Hi, I'm over clocking my amd fx-8300
Base clock 3.3 GHz Hopefully to 4.0 or 4.2 GHz, but I need help because I have never overclocked a CPU. I have, cpu: cooler: Thermaltake CL-P0503 80mm, mother board:
Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard, RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB
Thanks,

Solution
The CL-P0503 has a TDP tolerance of 65W while the FX-8300 is rated at 95W TDP; you have no room for overclocking with that cooler. You need a better top-down cooler that will cool both the CPU and the poor 4+1 phase VRM on your motherboard. Overclocking is useless if throttling occurs and the frequency drops to 1.4 GHz.

Solution
With a rather weak cooler and a poor motherboard for overclocking, it's unlikely you'll eke out much of a safe overclock (if anything). You could overclock more with a better cooler/motherboard, but it's not worth putting any more money into this platform in 2016 just to overclock.

i have the same mother board. i have a fx 6300 oc to 4.51 GHZ at 1.41 volts. Overclocking is only possible with Vrm cooling otherwise the Vrms thermal throttle, i used the stock heatsink fan to cool vrms so no thermal throttling. When it does thermal throttle speeds will drop to 1.4 ghz and cause noticeable frame drops in games.
