I've had my PC for a few months and have decided to move from my living room TV to a desk so I need a monitor. I really like Samsung displays (I have a Note 4 and Samsung TV) however I am not opposed to other companies and also have liked the ASUS monitor that I have seen in stores. I have a G1 Gaming GTX 970 and but plan on playing @1080p so I can keep price down, bells & whistles on, and FPS up. I'm not sure if 120hz is necessary I've heard some people can't do without and some people don't really notice it. Finally @1080p which is better 24" or 27"? So what monitors do people with this graphics card use? If you own the monitor that is preferred but any suggestions are great too. Trying to keep it <$300. I know this is a long post just trying to answer any questions people may have.

TL;DR: Picking a monitor for my GTX 970, looking for 1080p, 24-27", <$300

Solution
With a 970, I think you are better off with a 144Hz monitor, you can play all of your games very smoothly up to 140+ fps without getting any screen tearings. 24 inches is best for 1080p, 27 is more for 1440p, but it really depends on the person, some people like 27 inches at 1080p, some don't. But if you are probably used to 60Hz and if you are okay with playing at 60 fps, you can go for IPS for better picture quality.

I have console gamed for a long time so I haven't ever experienced +60Hz. Thank you for the recommendation!

Well, you could give it a try if you want, I was recommending an IPS monitor to some guy a while ago and and some other 144Hz monitor, I guess he decided to go with the 144Hz monitor and he just posted back and said he loves it. If you don't like it or see a difference, you could always return it and get an IPS monitor instead and stick with 60Hz. If you're going to buy it, I would go with Amazon, they have great customer service and RMA support, if you don't like it, just ask for pick up the monitor from your house with $0 cost and then you get your money back :)

That sounds like a plan! Just a quick question, why the suggestion of 144Hz over 120Hz? Is it just that I can probably run it so why not? or is there a noticable difference?

Because I don't think there is exactly a lot of 120Hz monitors out there, only 60Hz or 144Hz. I have no idea why they chose 144, but that's just how they set it.

Oh, okay I have just heard 120Hz with TV's and assumed. Thank you very much for you help!

The AOC G-sync monitor is the least expensive G-sync screen (but still pricey) and is incredibly impressive for gaming. I have this monitor and it was a huge upgrade over my 5 year old lg. The motion is clear and smooth, colors are great. I couldn't be happier works with all of my games both old and new flawlessly.
