help recommend parts for general purpose pc (with as many parts from old rig as possible)

My current pc's motherboard just died. It was used mainly for the internet, ms office work, watching movies, and converting cds to flac.
Could you please help recommend parts for a new pc, hopefully using as many parts as possible from the old pc. My budget is no more than $600.

There are some, but they have the cheaper chipset. I've included a videocard so you shouldn't need integrated graphics. You could always use your old gpu as an extra.

on a Gigabyte Motherboard AMD AM3+ S938 GA-990FXA-UD3, can i use a single 8gb stick of ram, or do i have to install 2 sticks of 4gb?

It doesn't matter. 2x4 will be a tiny bit faster but 1x8 also works.
