Hello Tom's Hardware forum users,

My name is Matt and I am asking for any assistance possible. Let me explain my situation best for you.

I have an alienware laptop m17x r4. It always runs fine and groovy, but recently I got some malware and it will no longer load up.

I have two hard drives. One is my SSD and another normal harddrive. So i reinstalled windows on my SSD and everything was working fine (other than my other hard drive still having the malware)

I must note that it forced me to boot from "secondary hard drive" to have it go to the solid state drive.

The SSD drive after downloading windows updates won't load up. It goes all the way to the "installing and configuring windows updates page (upon restart)" but then says "it can not update, reverting back changes. then it restarts and repeats.

The other hard drive has a bad case of mal ware as mentioned and when loaded up the entire background is black with only a prompt to put in my windows 7 key.

So neither side will boot. I am desperate. I am using another computer at this time to assist me fixing my alienware. Please assist and sorry for the long read!!!

Kind regards,
Matt

Solution
Hey,
Hopefully you have a restore point so don't despair and try this:
1) Spam f8 key during boot, after POST messages, and select Repair your computer at the menu.
2) Select "Use recovery tools that can help fix problems ..." and click next, at the new screen select system restore and see if you have a restore point before the offending updates and if so restore from that point.
3) If you get back into your system again check for updates but uncheck update 3033929 if you are offered.

Thank you bogdansv,

I didn't have any restore points available but Thanks to your information I was at least able to get to the desktop where I can actually work. I have since re installed windows to a fresh copy. Thank you again, because I would have never been able to fix this without your help
