Hey guys! I'm new to these forums and I would like any and all knowledge that may be relevant to my upcoming challenge of building my own computer.

I love gaming, problem is I have no idea about computer parts or anything and I have been playing around on these forums and google trying to figure out stuff and learn but it seems every thread I read I just get 100 more questions that pop up in my head and its getting me nowhere.

I am currently in Afghanistan and I am prepared to spend whatever I want for the most epic rig.. the machine I have always dreamed of >;o and I considered Ibuypower but this has to be mine ... I want this to be my creation and that will benefit me in the long run because, even though I don't know much of anything, something about the idea of building and tinkering with computers has always fascinated me and then once I understand the guts of this thing, i can upgrade later on with ease and I might possibly even understand why I get errors and lag and stuff lol.

So, if you guys could just help me with the basics of what I need in the order I need it will be appreciated greatly. I already have some idea but it raises more questions like what brands? whats the 'best of the best' when it comes to things like GPU and what kinda power supply or fans would I need and how do I find a case that fits what i want in it with the proper amount of ports .. whats the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 USB? lol.. I could go on for days with stupid questions, I feel so lost.

Apologies for the semi-long post and my lack of knowledge. Maybe I'm too far behind the curve to be able to do such a thing, but this is part of my attempt.

Thank you guys for your time.

Hi
Post you approx. budget and that will be a start.
You can try this web for configuring - you can play around some configs - http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/
Build you config and save it there
Then post you config link for further reccomendentions and rework.

Thanks for the site man, i been looking for something like that to get me going. There is another problem tho, the site has alot of different parts and I don't understand them. In certain threads on here I see people post about CPU's and numbers like 3970 and people saying get something with a smaller number because it performs the same for half the price. I don't know what parts to pick to start a list so that was sort of what I was looking for; some insight into parts and numbers or models that could give me a baseline of understanding that I could build off of.

The i7 things are the newest CPU's probably right? I will start with what one I should get so I will look for one of those I suppose. In the end I don't have a budget, im going all out.. I would love to get performance for half the price, thats why I am on here - to pick the brains of all of you guys who have been at this for some time and know a thing or two. thanks!

okay guys, hopefully more people will read this as well. I did what you suggested Nikolay Savov: I made a list of parts and I will explain why and hopefully you guys can steer me in the right direction.

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jexta/saved/1zIe

Reasoning (set me straight, add opinions, anything is appreciated):

*I picked the i7 3770k because from what I been reading it is probably the best of the best.

*H100 cooler because somewhere in these threads I seen it mentioned and its the only thing I could recognize on that huge list so its a start.

*Motherboard there was ALOT of stuff and i didn't know anything but this one had 5 stars and had the word "gaming" in it lol

*memory i picked that one because it has 3x4 that is about 12GB I believe more is better when you're trying to play demanding games?

*storage I was lost with that huge list as well.. i picked this one because it had about 5 star rating and had 1TB and thats about the size I would need for storing bunch of games and stuff probably.

*I picked the GTX 580 only because 590 wasn't on the list.. I would like the best which is 590 I think and I have always had Nvidia so I am going to stay with them most likely

*power supply I think 850 watts should be enough for the parts I would want and even to upgrade to more demanding parts?

*case was a huge list and I couldn't see pictures and I still don't know how many ports I should want or need for various things so ill tackle that beast after I get the basics out of the way.

Thats what I got so far... set me straight please, the pro's and con's and the good brands for the things I didn't understand would be appreciated. Thank you all for your time.
