can anyone help me fix this issue please. i have this process that is win media player 11 network share that i cannot get rid of. i have disabled all of the auto features of win media player 11 and selected not to share folders but every reeboot there it is. i have even tried to disable via msconfig in both the services and start up. even though it states stopped up it popps eating around 5,000k of ram all the time. please help me to shut it off.

it is not in there. after the install of win media player 11 my pc acted very odd. since the reboot after the install i have no longer been able to right click in the start menu anywhere above the blue line so i had to access the admin tools by right clicking on the start button/properties/start menu/customise/advance, and put services into the all programs group. i have also been blocked from my music folder, every time i click on my folders inside explorer crashes. this is really annoying. i even tried to use system restore by the first restore point is right after the install of the updates and the others have all been removed. so i am in a bit of a pickle with my notebook atm.

quickly scan with your upto date anti virus and also spysweeper

you can scan for free here with spysweeper

and forget what ever anti spyware you have, please scan with spysweeper and see what it says.

this is not normall at all.

to check for the service I was talking about you need to right click my computer>manage>services and applications>services> here look for wmp's network sharing services and set it to disabled on startup

i did a complete scan with my anti virus software(kaspersky internet security 6) then used the webroot scan no viruses or spyware on my pc, just the usual cookies like doubleclick that ie7 still fails to block the scripts for which is why i use firefox with the noscript plugin.

it seems i have had some privalges changed on my pc also.

i am still able to carry out most admin tasks but not right click on the start menu :-(

my pc is a dell xps notebook that i only use for a few online games, work and music on the move. the music on my pc was ripped from my personal cd's with nero 7. i do not install anything off of the internet or open attachments from contacts i do not know, there is minimul software installed on my notebook atm other than office packages, guild wars, ventrilo/teamspeak, firefox, my internet security(kaspersky), lavasoft ad-aware pro se latest build, macromedia dreamweaver, flash, visual studio 6, power dvd7, and the usual quicktime plugins ect and all ms latest updates fixes for xp.

*edit* i always dislike using programs that have been given great reviews by companies that have a substantial shareholding in that company, or other vested interests! pc world(DSG International) has figures in many pies and are far from truthful to the public! btw who exactly is on the board of vnu??

where as kaspersky http://www.kaspersky.com/ has been proven to remove substantially more than most other security suits on offer with the exception on nod32 maybe. lol

it was set for selective before then i tried to start up in diag mode, i have been able to start up in diag mode and access the admin account from the boot sequence/dos and there is no fault on that account only mine which is the only active account on this unit, but there is something blocking my main account from entering diag mode from the msconfig display, i even killed all running processes that were none essential and it still restricted me.

kk on normal boot. i had taken stuff out of the startup like nero check, abode update, ms messenger, real update all them annoying useless memory eating programs. and the non ms report home progs from inside services.

ok now can you do this:

right click my computer>manage>services and applications>services> here look for wmp's network sharing services and set it to disabled on startup

i am unable to right click in the start menu anywhere above the blue line (win xp) as somthing has revoked some of my admin rights but i was able to right click the start button and add admin tools to the start menu. when i looked where the process should be it is not there.

can you drag and drop files in teh start menu at all?

nope. i cannot right click at all or drag drop items in, remove items from, rearrange/sort by name ect.

i can still use the add remove. use the cmd, msconfig

Right-click Taskbar>Properties>click Start Menu tab>choose Customize
Click Advanced tab and enable Enable Dragging and Dropping

that should hopefully fix both problems.

if its not there let me know
