I need new laptop for my work. Hoping for info ASAP, so I can buy something today blk friday/cyber monday. I currently have a Dell inspiron 640 windows xp, it is apparently outdated & worthless (can only do some internet searchs, & emails).

I MUST be able to have Java & adobe reader for my work program. Spend around $300

I have been reading & getting a bit confused. No chromebook or android products, as they either can't get java or are quite difficult to download java. No AMD processor, as to slow.

I'm thinking 4gb memory, 500gb hard drive. (about 13" screen) & probably a Dell laptop.

Processors are (lowest/slowest first) intel celeron dual core, pentium dual core, new 4th generation intel core i3 , then intel core i5. Would like the i5, but too expensive, but is the intel celeron dual core to slow?

Also, "building" one with window 8.1 doesn't always allow for i5. or windows 7 pro only allows for intel celeron dual core. etc, The combinations are limited. So not sure if the intel celeron dual core would be satisfactory?

Now for the OS. I DON'T think I want Windows 10. Read/heard a lot of bugs in system, or it's just not good.

I am thinking either Windows 7 PRO, or Windows 8.1?????????

Some computers you can get the 8.1 (& free upgrade to win 10 -within 1 yr). I guess I need help with which windows?

If there comes a time when the upgrade to windows 10 or whatever program is required, I want to make sure my computer as enough memory, or hard drive, etc to do the upgrade, but I also don't want to get wind 7 or wind 8, then in a few months be required to "purchase" windows 10 because my OS is outdated.

Thank you (all) for any info or advice you can offer!!!
