It's been almost a decade since I've purchased a new modem and router, so I thought I'd make this thread to ask for some final thoughts before I make the purchase. I'm mainly updating for better wifi throughout the household and cable connections.

Here's my current setup: Router: https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/WNDR3400.aspx

Modem: http://www.arris.com/products/touchstone-multiline-e-mta-tm822-asg/

What I'm thinking of upgrading to: Modem: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075XGZ6GL/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

And for the router, it's either this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R2AZLD2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 or https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0DD0I6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I need a modem that has a landline, which is why I'm looking at the CMV500, however, I don't know how much the 300 MB limit on the modem affects my internet/router. Supposedly, my current internet plan (Comcast) can go over 300 MB, so I'm not really sure.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I really hope I get the best answer as I really put time in to this. Lots of things you left out like the size of your house, amount of clients connecting to your network, upload speed of your plan budget and hardwire needs. If you need a ethernet port for a PC than we might have to find a solution or a different setup. I say keep the modem and get Google wifi. Give you a bit of flexibility and expansion. Let's say you have a 2500 sqft home, well $299 will get you three tiny nods that mesh and will cover your house more. As time goes on you add more nodes to cover your entire property for $99 a piece.

Googles network is seemless when moving around and you always have a strong signal so no more dark spots. I have 27 devices from cell...

How much more can you get out of your ISP's bandwidth if you're saying it's beyond 300? The limit on your modem can and will affect the router since the maximum bandwidth provided by the modem is 300(as you've said) anything higher than the number you see advertised on the router is negated by the limit placed by the modem.

IMHO, if your ISP is providing a higher bandwidth(confirm via ISP's support) for your package then your upgrades are deemed necessary.

My package says it can download up to 400 MB and that's apparently the highest they offer in my area.

I've been trying to find other modems since I kinda assumed that 300 cap would affect the router, but I wasn't completely sure. Another thing I noticed is, there's really not that many modems with a phone jack anymore. That's something I really need since people use the landline.

I could go on forever of the benefits of this setup. Read over this and let me know if you have a questions. Don't hesitate to PM me.

If you have the money and a bit of knowledge or at least willingness you could also look into these:

Meraki Go GR60 AP - similar features just more and 1 is $200 but outdoor rated, higher security,
stronger signal and better mesh.
