here is the problem:
under explorer's "view > folder options > view > hide file extensions for known file types"
I keep unchecking it, but system keeps on resetting it back to "hide" (box checked) so I decided to go to regedit and try to fix the problem:
I manually set the HideFileExt's value to "0" but system resets it back to "1" every couple minutes >_<
then I figured since my OS likes the number "1" so much, I might as well do this:
I switched the "CheckedValue" from "1" to "0" & "UncheckedValue" from "0" to "1" which means now instead of "Hide file extensions for known file types," it's now "show file extensions for known file types" if I check the box. Guess what!!! OS now unchecks the box so file extensions still don't show!!! I was like &$%#@!!
So I decided to call Micro$oft, but I happen to have an OEM win98se, so Micro$oft was like.... no $$$, no talk!!! So I hung up on the rep and gave him a <^> and came here hoping someone can help me with my problem without charging me...... please??

WTF!?!

Email Fred Langa...maybe he could help, cuz I have never heard of that before. That is certainly amazing.

Kernel32.dll error...aw, son of a.... 😱

Tie a rock onto that mother and heave it into a lake!

(crash and reinstall)

I hacked Msft, and all I got was this lousy source code.....

Then I had this very little hope that if I run a scan disk and let it correct errors automatically, it might fix it (don't know where I got that idea from...)
So scan disk started running, hard drive was making some noices as usual... 1 minute passed... 2 minute passed... then... sigh~ at somewhere between 2nd minute & 3rd minute, scan disk started over again... then I double checked if I'd closed all programs that were running... hrm... nothing besides explorer & system tray were running, scan disk just keeps on restarting itself over & over again every 2.5 minutes. It seems like the OS is resetting itself every 2.5 minutes... any clue???
