I need some help finding a Mobo/CPU/RAM combo for cheapish to replace 10+ year old system.
I was trying to fix a relative's old PC setup. Following specs:

(TL;DR: Need to find a system that is better than the below specs for the cheapest possible)

  • MSI DKA790GX (apparently has integrated Radeon HD 3300?)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
4-8 GB RAM (forgot how much :/ )

After troubleshooting for some time I'm convinced that either the MoBo or the CPU is bad, and I'm heavily leaning on the MoBo being the issue (no post, video, beeps, etc).

Anyway, we need a replacement for her and would like to do it as cheap as possible. Since I can't find any standard ATX AM2 motherboards for new at a reasonable price I turned to eBay. It looks like the cheapest we are going to find one on eBay is $30-40 and that is probably used and a big hassle to return, etc if it turns out the MoBo was not the issue. So, instead of buying used equipment to play the swap out game we just want to replace the whole system...

I don't mind buying a used system on eBay or CL, but was hoping I could put together a Mobo/CPU/RAM combo for as close to $150 as possible. We have a good case and PSU so don't need those.

I realize not going to get anything blazing at that price, but I figure should be able to get something about twice as good (CPU/graphics wise) than that 10 year old tech.

Does anyone have some good suggestions on what a good setup would be?

Usage is standard productivity/internet with light gaming (obviously she wasn't doing anything a Radeon HD 3300 couldn't support)!

thanks.

Just get a generic dell sff with an i5 from the second generation or up in it.

For some reason I wasn't getting updates to this thread so didn't know anyone else had replied.
Thanks for the options, esp @WildCard999 since this type of component breakdown is what I was looking for.
