help with a "broken" gpu i sold

ok, so here is the story, had a gtx 760 laying around, so i tested it, it worked just fine, i even stress tested it with a few games and valley benchmark, 0 errors, failing, or anything at all, perfectly good gpu, so i put it on ebay, sell it, test it again before packing it up and shipping it out. now i dont ship internationally , and the guy who bought it is in the ukraine, he had it shipped there through a third party shipping agent.

this part is the just of what he said

he got his card, put it in tot he pc and it booted just fine, he installed the drivers, rebooted and it blue screens, he tried several times, but anytime he installs the drivers it blue screens, now i asked for his specs, didnt respond, i asked for them again and he said he was bringing it to a pc shop, now its about 4-5 days later and he says the pc shop said the gpu chip is broken.... wont give me any other information.

so, am i screwed out of 85 bucks ? i know ebay return policy heavily favors the buyer, is there any way i can fight this, or is it pointless ?

im really bummed cause the money i got was gonna be put to xmas presents for my niece's, and now im gonna get screwed out of the cash
 
As bad as it is I doubt there is any way to convince ebay it was already in working order.
I would open a support ticket with them before you get hit with a refund request. You have written proof the card was received in working order, whatever happened next is not your problem.

From a computer standpoint, none of that even makes sense. If the GPU itself had burned out, it wouldnt cause BSODs after driver installs, it simply wouldnt work at all from the get go.
 


yeah, thats exactly what i was thinking, i have never worked on PC's as a job, but its been a hobby of mine for a while, never had highend equipment but i made do, and i have never seen or heard of a bsod on a fried or "broken" gpu chip

I would start the process before it hits you, ebay's buyer protection is just that, for the buyer.
However, this does mean it can be used against people. Get your story in first, you have the messages to prove what exactly happened.
It will probably be a fight, but I would not let this go quietly.

It also seems extremely convenient you sold a product for the states and someone bought it and had it shipped elsewhere, only then to say its not working, where you cant do anything about it.

You have written confirmation the card was working after delivery. You can also explain your own tests as well, but that should be your main point.

Or you can call them (google the number) and speak to someone on the issue, though I would go through the above first.
 
You also need to mark or identify (discreetly) parts before shipping. Unscrupulous buyers may be trying to replace a damaged one with yours. I have run into this a couple of times on Ebay myself. I would require that the defective part be sent back before issuing a refund and inform them you can identify your card. They may drop it at that. Also, file a complaint with the Ebay. The buyer may have a history of this type of scam and Ebay may decide in your favor.
 


he is basically saying he wont return it to me, he is saying it will cost to much to ship it back
 
Man all of this reeks with fraud. If it has to be reshipped through a third party I don't think you should be responsible because they could have easily tampered with the card as well. Plus the exchange rate for ukrainian hryvnia to USD has dropped almost 60% in the last 5 years according. It makes no sense for him to be buying a GPU from the US with the "expensive shipping".
 
DO NOT give him anything. If he is willing to send you the card then you can decide, but tell him ,the card has distinctive markings so you will know if he is not sending you the correct card. If he is not willing to send the card back then its his loss. This is my opinion. Good luck.
 
How are you doing this correspondence with him ??
I hope it's through eBay's private messaging system ??
So you & they both have proof of what's been said.

How was this paid for ?? If its PayPal then you are likely SOL mate , they will refund & then you will have to fight for the return etc.

Unfortunately this is rife now on the bay, too many chancers & rippers on there .
EBay & PayPal both favour the buyer with a massive bias.
Great for if you're buying, terrible if you are a seller.
I wont sell anything electrical or electronic on there at all nowadays.
 


No, your best bet is to stick to your guns and only refund him if he sends back the card that you sent him.
