Can anyone help with this annoying problem.
I have a Mercury 32mb Geforce 2mx (AGP), that only seems to work with my one oldest monitor. I have tried it with other monitors which were also a few years old but the computer doesnt boot. I dont get any boot type of signals i.e. beeps, i only get a flash of the cdrom lights.
When it is on the monitor that it works with, it also sometimes does'nt boot but usually does after a few attempts with the power switch.
When i do get it going it seems to works fine. Here is my setup:
Duron 800mhz
Asus A7V-E mobo (with what i beleive is the latest VIA 4in1's and AGP/USB patch)
Mercury 32mb Geforce 2mx
128mb sdram
Intel 10/100 network card
Monster sound 400 sound card
56k hardware modem
50x artec cdrom
Running Win Me

If you need more info, just ask and i will reply PDQ with what you need. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone also give me a little history on the Asus A7V-E as a mobo. i.e. performance, problems, why its so cheap compared to the other A7V mobos, etc.

When you say it won't boot, do u mean the monitor isn't
getting the signal (indicated by a yellow light on the monitor), and the machine is booting but with blank screen?? or do you mean the machine isn't running at all?
..is the HD light on?

I ask this because I've got a leadtek GF2pro that once in
a while simply doesn't send a signal to the monitor (light stays yellow)...after I switch it off and on again it seems to be okay though.

Just a thought...But can these old monitors handle the default refresh rate of the video card? ...Like 65mhz@640x480

I'm not in touch with my feeings, and I like it that way!

have you tried the monitors with other video cards? It sounds a little odd and it may be the monitors them selves, purhaps the pin connectors for the MX is bad? Your mobo is just a smaller version than the A7V.

The computer takes about 10+ attempts to boot, but when it does it works fine i.e. i play halflife online, it runs 3d mark 2001 etc.
The HDD light stays off and the monitor light (which is always on) stays on. I have had other 3d cards which have worked fine on these monitors (voodoo 3, TNT M64), although i have'nt tried it on a new monitor.

Hm...interesting problem. I'd say maybe PSU, but since it worked with other video cards it's probably not that.
Or may ur Video card is bad?...But then I guess it would not run okay after it does boot up.

This may sound stupid, but could the power switch have gone bad-ish on you?? Because I had a case once where the actual
button switch went flaky on me. I had to push the thing in
about 5-10 times (like you said) until the power would actually come on.

Thanks for the replies, any more information forthcoming i would happily read it - thanks
