I'm taking a Comptia A+ course in school. I'm currently using Lab Sim by Testout. I was hoping someone could explain this to me.

The task at hand was to configure a PC with a wireless card from a static IVP4 address to automatic. No problem.

Then create a alternative in another tab using a static set up. It says and lists the gateway address as 192.168.2.254. I tried using the previous DNS address of 163.128.80.93 from earlier. Which didn't work. The correct answer is to use the 192.168.2.254 which is the same as the gateway. What would be the reasoning for using the same address as the gateway for the DNS?

My thought is to allow the gateway to communicate with the DNS?

Any reason for this? Thanks!

Solution
Because the gateway caches DNS. That is typical behavior for home class routers. The DNS for the DHCP clients is the same as the gateway. The router resolves external DNS and caches them for the LAN clients. For frequently used DNS entries it is much faster.
