I am currently using the stock cooler for my FX 60.

Can anybody suggest a good replacement that doesnt require me taking the mobo out of the case to put a bracket on the rear of the mobo!!?

I just want a straight swap but without all the messing around!!

It has to be a good one though!!!!

Thanks in advance!!

PS - I am about to replace my 2 x 7800GTX's for 1 8800GTX, does anybody think that the 8800GTX will not suit my system or will it be a good match with what I have already got???

Most coolers for AMD systems use the bracket built into the motherboard to secure the heatsink. If you want a really nice cooler that mounts this way the Scythe Infinity will suit. If you want something less massive and expensive the Freezer 64 also uses a simple clip in installation.

Two 7800s is nothing to scoff at, and the GTX will stress pretty much any cpu out there, but if you really want DX10 support then you could go for it.

If you do not want to remove the mobo, you do not want to break your wallet, want a silent cooler and a really good one, try the coolermaster hyper tx. It uses the retention mechanism of the socket 939. The only thing you check is

1. It can fit in your case
2. Make sure you ask for the amd version

Check www.bigbruin.com fore the review of the intel version (yea I know)

Check www.frozencpu.com for some alternatives.

Good luck

The AF64PRO is what I am going to use for my 4200+ @ 2.4G; It's a very good fan, even for medium OC-ing and here you have a good price too:

I agree. I'm using one on an Opteron 180 @2.52Ghz, which keeps tempertures 26-30ºC, depending on whether the central heating is on or not
They're supposed to be pretty quiet too, although I can't tell as the stock cooler on my 1900XT and 5 case fans are louder

I'd vote for the AF64Pro too.
I have one in my rig - I have a FX-60 as well.
Even under extreme loads, I don't see temps over 43 C. Its a great cooler and you can't beat the price.
