Hi guys, im building a gaming pc soon, i have all of the components but im just a bit worried about static charge on the motherboard and other parts, i only have the option to build on carpet, should i use an anti static wristband? Should i be in bare foot? I think im worrying too much but i just want to be safe, is it necassary to have a wristband? What else should i do to be sure there is no static charge? Thanks guys.

some people never build without a anti-static wrist or ankle band. some people take it even further and use a special anti-static mat and workbench. it is all personal preference, as long as you make sure you properly ground yourself by touching the case or even the psu you'll be safe.

It's not necessary but a good idea to have one.

I've worked on pc's in a carpeted room for years and never had a problem.

If in doubt you could set your powersupply up next to where you are working on the pc (plugged in but powered off at the wall will be fine) and discharge yourself on that from time to time during the build, i've done this a few times on high static days.

Main cause of static electricity: "Fuzzy Sweaters"...............

Just ground yourself before touching the computer components. Never touch the pins on CPU or the gold finger on the GPU card or RAM DIMMs and you'll be fine.....
