Hello everyone, I’m nearing the end of my first build and I’m having issues with my Corsair AX860 PSU. Specifically, how to wire the GPU. I’m using an Nvidia 780Ti and after chatting online with an Nvidia rep he told me I need 2 separate cables: one 8 pin at the PSU with an 8 pin at the GPU and another 8 pin at the PSU with a 6 pin at the GPU. Problem is, my AX860 cables have nothing exactly like that. I have 2 PCIE cables in the bundled set that might fit the bill, but I’m not sure. They both appear to be one piece 8 pin at one end but upon inspection have only 6 actual connectors inside. The other end has 8 pins total, but split 6/2. Do I use these 2 identical cables for this application? I’m concerned as the one piece 8 pin (PSU end?) only appears to have 6 actual electrical contacts even though it looks like an 8 pin. Being new to all this, I know I may be overthinking it, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I don’t want to smoke a motherboard (or worse). I’m hoping someone out there can help. Unfortunately the manual(s) that came with the AX860 are woefully lacking. I will be watching this post so please respond if you can help. Thanks so much in advance!

Solution
Combine the 6+2 pin cable to make your 8 pin cable. Then use the other 6 pin cable. The two cables needed for the 780 ti should look like this:

Hello guys. It was recommended by Nvidia that I use 2 separate cables for this GPU. I'm thrown off by the fact that the cables that I think I can use have what appears to be 8 pin but only have 6 electrical connections at that end. I don't know if that's an issue. I hear you RazerZ. I'm good with the 6+2 at the GPU and for the second GPU connection just leave the +2 dongle hanging, but what about the two PSU ends? They *look* like 8 pin, but only actually have 6 electrical leads in them. Am I just overthinking this?
