Guys,

Could you help me with this. I am new to upgrading PCs, as I have only just built my first in 2017. I am upgrading using this motherboard. From an article I read, I believe I am good with an upgrade to the Ryzen 5000 series, so I am looking to go from a Ryzen 5 1600 to a Ryzen 9 5800x . To go along with that, I was looking to get something like a AMD RX 6700 XT graphics card.

Is this all compatible together? From what I am reading, I believe it is, but again, I am no expert here. Thank you for all your help!

Anything with a "-->" is what I am looking to upgrade...

Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming (AMD Ryzen AM4/B350)
CPU- AMD Ryzen 5 1600 --> Ryzen 7 5800x ... Thoughts?
GPU- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 --> Really don't know here... maybe AMD RX 6700 XT ... Thoughts?
HD- WD Blue 1TB
SSD- Samsung 2 TB
RAM- G.Skill Ripjaws V Series DDR4 RAM 16 GB
Power Supply- EVGA 500W --> Either 750, 850, 1000, 1300 watts ... Thoughts?

I didn't read question

You will need to update your BIOS to version F51g to support that CPU, but it should work - https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-AB350-Gaming-rev-1x/support#support-cpu

did you mean a Ryzen 7 5800x or a Ryzen 9 5950x? as there isn't a Ryzen 9 5800x :)

I might let someone else suggest GPU.

You would probably only need a 750watt PSU for that CPU & GPU. I have 5800x3d & a 7900xt and I only use about 700 on the Power calculators I have looked on.

You are correct, it's the Ryzen 7 5800x that I was thinking about getting. I will correct original post. Thanks for all of that information!

i expect the main question for gpu would be how much you willing to spend. I don't actually live in USA so I don't know what prices you have to offer.

It also depends on what screen size you are using

6800xt looks like a good match but the 6700xt is also mentioned. https://www.pcguide.com/gpu/guide/best-for-ryzen-7-5800x/

6700 XT would be a massive upgrade regardless.

How many cards have you looked at? most places I find suggesting an upgrade from the 1050 only seem to think Nvidia exist.

I don't want to waste too much of your time :)

if you are in the US, i would suggest getting the 5800X3D. this will be the last time you would upgrade on this platform, might as well prolong the life of the PC by going with the best CPU.

as for GPU, for 1080p i would suggest the 6750XT.

what is your budget for the upgrade?

for your reference:

Thank you for all of your great information. My budget would be between 700-900 for CPU, GPU, 2TB SSD, Power Supply.

Alright everyone, I purchased everything and they all arrived. I got the following...
-Ryzen 7 5800x
-AMD RX 6650 XT
-EVGA 850W

My problem now is that when I try to update my BIOS, it says invalid image or something like that. Here is the BIOS section for my motherboard. I am currently still running F8, but was trying to update it to F52m of F52h, but neither are working.

Please someone help me out. I am not the most knowledgeable guy here with this. Thank you in advance.

I’ll let someone else chime in also but if I’m reading it right (I’m on my phone keep in mind), but it seems to be saying you need to update to bios F40 first. Then after flashing to that version that perhaps you can flash the latest version. I’m not sure about gigabyte but on my old AsRock board you would download the bios file, and you would have a flash drive formatted as fat32.

Unzip the contents of the downloaded bios file onto the root of your flash drive, then boot into the bios with the USB drive plugged in. Go into q flash and see if you can get it to detect the new bios.

Also that 5800x will likely run hot as those are known for that. What cooler are you planning to use?
