I am fairly new to overclocking and a friend has asked me to overclock his computer. The CPU he is using is pretty old and is an Intel Core 2 Duo e8400 3GHz. He has got an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 for the heat sink. I tried to overclock the computer to 4GHz yesterday but after saving the changes I was getting no signal onto the monitor even though the PC was still powered on so I had to reset the BIOS by reseting the CMOS battery. I am unable to change the multiplier which is set to 8x by default so I turned up the FSB to 500MHz to get me to the 4GHz overclock. The memory which is at 800MHz by default went up as a result of the CPU overclock to 1001MHz. I believe that this may have caused the error. I have heard something about RAM timings but not too sure what it means.
Please can someone help me with this overclock and indicate to me how to go about doing it without getting the no display error which I got yesterday? Thanks in advance.
