Help with data compression for backup

Hey guys - recently my storage hard drive has started to fail. I've taken all the really crucial stuff and copied it onto another drive (my SSD), but the storage drive still keeps a lot of stuff that I use and would be a pain to get again, I don't have enough space on my SSD to fit it all on uncompressed.

So how would I go about compressing the 1122GBs or so into a much much smaller size (70GBs)?

I have the hardware and time to use compressing the stuff - neither of those are particular constraints - but I've tried using 7zip to compress software and videos and I've never gotten better than a 98% compression ratio (.7z, Ultra, PPMd) :(

Thank you!

It greatly depends on what type of data is it. There is no absolute.
