Help with GPU fan curve? GTX 1080 Ti

Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I got a Strix 1080 Ti and that thing gets really loud during gaming, so I'm trying to tweak the GPU fan curve a little bit and improve that. Is this an acceptable fan curve focused on silent operation?

Also tried pushing the temperature limit down to 81 instead of the default 84, so that it stays at around 40% fan output. Am I losing a lot of performance from this?

Thanks in advance for input and help. Much appreciated.

No. You're only reaching about 40% fan speed when it hits the temperature limit. I would have the fans reach about 40% speed at about 60C, 55% at 70%, and 70% at 80C.

I think you're misunderstanding the temperature limit. The temp limit does not have anything to do with fan speed. When the card reaches the temp limit, the core reduces its clock and voltage to keep from going over said temperature. This is called thermal throttling, and in some extreme cases, the core can throttle all the way down to 350MHz. Do not use the temperature limit to control the card's temperature, use the fans to do that.

If I use the curve you suggested the GPU will be really loud at 70% fan speed while gaming. That's why I made a more conservative curve as above. I got it throttling down to 1750 under load, while it reaches 1950 without throttling. Is this a considerable impact on performance?

That's almost a 10% loss in clock speed. It's definitely enough to impact performance. If you're worried about it, turn on V-sync. This will limit how hard the card is working and will reduce heat output, which reduces the need for fans to ramp up to high speeds.
