Hello everyone I plan to buy a gtx 1060 3gb for 720p would it be able to hit ultra without vram limitations? I mainly plan to upgrade for the coming of shadow of war. I also plan to play newer games at ultra if possible. How would pascal memory compression help in gaming. Thank You.

If that's the case, buy the 3GB and you could even upgrade to a 1080p 60Hz monitor and still be able to play at ultra on most games with that.

Shadow of war has a minimum sys req of 2GB VRAM, recommended is 4GB. The cost difference between the two in your area is huge though. But for that game specifically the 1060 is recommended, but it is not specified which version. I can only assume the 1060 3GB will run it just fine, but I can't be certain since it isn't specified which 1060 is the recommended one.
If going with a 1060, you should look exclusively at the 6GB. Think of the 6GB as the 1060 Ti and the 3GB as the vanilla 1060. 3GB flavor has fewer CUDA cores and as a somewhat stripped down "full" 1060.

If you're set on the price range of the 3GB 1060, consider the AMD RX480. The 480 is proven to be better than the 3GB 1060, but falls a little short of the 6GB 1060.

It has barely fewer cores and the performance difference between them is less than 10%. At 720p it wouldn't matter as the 1060 3GB is more than capable of hitting ultra at well over 60fps.

Unless the OP was planning on upgrading the monitor soon it would be money wasted. If I were the OP I would get a 1060 3GB and put the rest towards a 1080p monitor.

Shadow of Mordor, the prequel, was a notorious VRAM hog. Unless they made some incredible optimizations for Shadow of War, I wouldn't even consider buying a 3 GB card in order to play it. Either buy the GTX 1060 6 GB or the RX 580 8 GB. You might want to wait until a few days after the release. By that time their will be plenty of performance reviews out.
