Help with HDD

I just build my PC, and a friend of mine gave me his old
HDD while I save for an SSD. He has win8.1 on the drive, but it's corrupted, so it takes me to Windows recovery as soon as I boot. I do have a win10 code and a USB with it on there. How would I approach this to download win10

The 8.1 might not be 'corrupted', but just that it chokes on your new hardware.

You can create your own USB or DVD install media.
