Hi,
I am planning on putting together a computer for my basement in the next 2 weeks. It will have 2 major roles. It will be hooked to a projector in our home theater room as well as to a flat screen tv in our gameroom. I plan on ripping some of our DVD's and Blurays to the hard drive and playing them on the projector as well as streaming netflix. So the first priority is that it be able to play bluray quality movies in 7.1 without a hiccup. When not being used for that purpose, it will be hooked up to the tv and used to play games. I mainly plan on playing emulators on it, like old c64 and SNES. While playing the games, I also plan on having a usb tv capture card hooked up to it and windows media player playing live tv. So the computer needs to have the horsepower to run the games while showing live tv.
It will be on a shelf in an entertainment center, so it can't be in a desktop case-I was thinking some type of cube case. I was thinking an i5 processor with integrated graphics would be good enough. However I want to make sure I have the options to expand down the road. My kids are growing up and it could potentially turn into a minecraft or battlefield machine in the future. I want to make sure I have the space to add a graphics card down the road if I need to. So what do you guys suggest?
Case-Not sure. Needs to have a few usb ports in the front for joysticks. Needs to be relatively small but have enough room for a bluray player, hard drive now and have room for possible graphics card down the road
Motherboard-Again not sure. Needs to have on board wifi and 7.1 sound.
Chip- I'm thinking the i5 is the best bet for now. I believe it has the horsepower to do what I need now and should be ok if I decide later on to make it more of a full fledged gaming machine.
Hard drive-will probably get a 1tb to hold the movies
Optical-will get a bluray reader
Memory-probably 8 gb
Power-Not sure. Just wants to make sure it fits in the case comfortably.
I already have a USB tv tuner I will recycle. I plan on using Windows 7.
I plan on getting what I can from Amazon. I live about 45 minutes from a Micro center so thats also a possibility. I would like to spend around 500 but could go to 700-800 if necessary.
Thanks for any help!
