I have a Lexmark 5600 printer and use Windows XP.
The document my daughter tried to
> print last week is stuck in the queue. It won't cancel when I try to
> cancel it (START menu, printers and faxes, click on Lexmark which
> shows "ready", click on document, right click to cancel
> printing. Document won't go away. The status says
> "deleting.") When I select other documents to print, it will allow
> me to cancel those, but not the first one in the queue. I have tried

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I recall that this problem occurred on my previous printer which makes me think it is a Windows XP issue.

Thank you,

Lynn

Solution
Shut off the printer, reboot the computer, should clear the print job. Since this was stuck for a while now though, did you reboot the PC in the meantime? Is it there even after that?
Thanks for the tip! Yes, now it's working!!

Please try this approach:

1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)
2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.
3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
