Recently bought a Samsung 970 evo and trying to get it working with my msi z170a-pro motherboard. As far as I can tell they should be compatible but the drive is not showing up in my os and in the bios it shows up but as a hard drive. If anyone has any thing that might help it would be much appreciated.

I agree. But this is where drives come to die so natural deaths are more likely here. An out of the package drive which does not show up properly in bios and not at all in windows may be defective. And retail warranty does expire.

Thing is, OP seems to have covered the other bases already. The drivers are there including the Samsung I presume and he has examined the bios.

Maybe the better next step is trying it in another machine. If it does work in another computer then no need to return in.The mainboard ( I'm thinking hardware) would have to be looked at.

I don't see any option in my bios to enable m.2, the only mention of m.2 is something called m.2 genie but when I enable it it activates RAID and my pc doesn't boot until I deactivate it.
