I'll apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum but I couldn't find one specific to MS Outlook 365. Here's what I would like to do: On the Windows 11 Outlook 365 program I use at home, I have the reading pane appear on the right. When I click on an email in my inbox, the entire email appears to the right. However, if I just hover over an email, two icons become visible. A flag and a trash can. On the MS Outlook 365 program at work, which I have set up identically to my home program, when I hover over an unread email in my inbox, three icons appear. A flag, trash can, and an envelope icon. The envelope icon gives me the ability to mark the email as read without actually selecting it (if the email has been read, the envelope icon gives me the option to mark it as unread). Does anyone know how I can add that "mark as read/unread" icon/shortcut to the Outlook program I am using at home?

Thank you

If you select an email and right click an empty space near where the flag and trash can appear does a drop down menu appear?

One option being "Mark as read".
Hey Ralson. Thanks for replying. Yep, that option is there. I am just wondering why, on two identical MS Outlook 365 programs (home and work), the option to mark as read (or unread) doesn't appear on my home program simply by hovering over the unread (or read) email. It's a handy option to have when skimming through numerous unread emails that you want to mark as read.

You may need to create a new Quick Step to get the envelop icon to appear.

Take a look at Quick Steps.

Compare work to home.

And I found this link:

I think I have solved the mystery, with your assistance. Upon closer inspection of the version of Outlook 365 at work, it is the "Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise" version. And it is actually the "Set Quick Actions" not the "Quick Step" option that allows the shortcuts to be changed/added. My version at home is simply "Microsoft 365" which, from what I can tell thus far, doesn't offer the "Set Quick Actions" option. That's too bad because adding/changing the shortcut is very simple. You just right click on the email and when the drop down menu appears, select "Set Quick Actions..." and choose which actions you want (you're limited to two). Anyway, thanks again for your help.

I went to answer this twice yesterday and got side tracked both times. I did find the quick step things but every time I went into Outlook to figure it out, I got sidetracked. I recently set it up to use instead of a web browser and hadn't set up rules, that was what side tracked me. My inbox was rather full. Now it isn't.
All I could find was a setting to make posts as read if they previewed in reading pane. But the 2 icons that do show were in the folder pane.
Fixing in box meant I never came back here.
