So i just built my gaming pc using an MSI geforce gtx 970 tiger oc edition graphics card and it's only now that i realized that it's different from the gaming edition one.

My questions are:

Are the difference substantial? I'm using it for gaming (dota 2, dragon nest, assassin's creed) so far i'm not experiencing any problems.

Would this model over heat easily?

I read somewhere that there is difference in clockspeed or something like that. Is it much?

Would i need to but CPU cooler for my GPU? I bought lots of fans already placed in the casing. there are like 4 of them there.

The return merchandize agreement of the store i bought it from only allows return for full price if it was returned for 3 days, then after that 10% reduction of the value +5% every week that passes by. It's been 1 week now, so i don't think i'll be able to return it and exchange for the dragon one. Though if the difference is with the cooling system, can i compensate it with a cpu cooler add on?

Hi, there is nothing to worry about. Both are very, very similar in aevery way and there would be like a very very small performance difference. Your card has a very good cooler so there is no reason to return it or worry about overheating. That card is very good. No need for a CPU cooler addon. :)

I've read somewhere that the fans of the tiger are worse than the dragon edition so i'm troubled about that. Thank you for answering. 😀

Why is the tiger edition better? In everything i've searched on they always say to go get the gaming edition.

i've googled the specs but i'm not really learned on computer parts and don't really know what this or that does. So i opted to just ask here. Thank you for answering. 😀

Because the Tiger Edition has the highest clocks from all the other 4 MSI 970s (4G is 2nd), which means they had the best PCB and where the easiest to OC.

Basically, they buy tens or hundreds of thousands of the basic card from Nvidia, test them for OC capabilities and the ones with the most potential get the best Edition, OC and therefore different coolers.

The differences are very small. SO it does not matter which edition of the MSI 970 you get, you will get pretty much the same performance. The tiger edition is a very good card and you shouldnt worry about any heat issues or what cards are better. You have a great card and should stick with that. :)

I don't think we are talking about the same graphics card. After google-ing the tiger oc edition only has core clock 1102 and 1241 MHz.
