So ... I'm looking to build a monster rig. I want raw, not overclocked power (since I do not know how to overclock properly). I've built many PC's, my problem is I don't keep up with all the components. Seems I'm only interested in such a thing when it comes time to do a new build every 2yrs-ish :p

With that in mind, I'm looking for a definitive list of parts that will last me through the next 2-3 yrs. No need for a case, or any peripherals. Just the meat and potatoes.

The extreme is a bit ott :p 4 way sli is a total waste, and the on board sound is worse :D The formula supports dual sli and has good sound ;) plus it looks better :D and around $70 cheaper
4-way sli is a total waste of money, there is nothing that 2 780 ti's cant do, except maybe 3 monitors at high resolutions, but even then you could just grab the 6gb versions. you are way better off saving your money for the next gen of graphics cards.

Donimator is overpriced, and not worth it, Vengeance Pro is the way to go :D (these are my opinions btw)

Investing more in a mobo means one is looking for specific features or OC capability. This motherboard is pretty solid No1 it comes with a combo deal. No2 it is good for OC but if you wanted to go extreme you could always rather go for a more expensive one. No3 If you are highly interested in extreme mobos then it would be good to invest more. No4 it really isn't a step down since motherboards with higher prices tend to OC better that's all in simplest terms. No5 It's a awesome motherboard for the price and it fits in your budget. It also has very good sound features.

So what features will I lose exactly between the one you linked, and the Maximus VI that I had? What kind of performance loss?

The motherboard has nothing to do with performance loss upto this point of class of motherboards (don't forget this). Basically the maximus 6 has awesome OC potential over the Asrock z87 but I thought you won't be OCing at least not very much.

Any hoo have a look at the sites here are some features of the boards:

ASUS MAXIMUS 6 EXTREME MOTHERBOARD

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_EXTREME/

ASROCK Z87 EXTREME 4 MOTHERBOARD

http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/Z87%20Extreme4/

By the way if you live near a micro centre go and pick up the i7 they have it for 60$ cheaper there.

Yea, idk how that ram slipped through on that build. I have already decided to go with the vengeance pro ram.

So that MSI mobo isn't bad? Just wondering how it compares to the maximus vi for being such a big price difference.

Well... the extreme is naturally better. That mobo has dual sli support (anymore is usually wasted) but only on 8/8. Its mildly worse in speed, and you get no oc panel. Plus its yellow (i hate yellow :D)

Overall, its $100 less for a minor performance hit (btw, my fav mobo is the maximus vi formula, might be worth a look ;))
