I'm legally blind. Size matters to me. I'm currently running 1200 x 675 on a 27 inch monitor. The text is still too small in many cases and I find myself using the magnifier app often.

I'm considering the purchase of a 40 inch curved screen monitor. Something like the Phillips BDM 4037VU8. it is a 4K monitor but I only want to run in 1280x1024.

I currently have an Intel I7 – 4770S processor and use the onboard graphics as my video card. I'm wondering if the HDMI output for my motherboard is sufficient to drive the 4K monitor in 1280 x 1024 mode.

Any recommendations for alternatives would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

4K UHD is a resolution of 3840 pixels × 2160 lines (8.3 megapixels, aspect ratio 16:9) and according to the i7-4770s specifications it does support the 4k resolution in any of the digital video formats but not in VGA analog.

Question is why use a 1280x1024 resolution which is appropriate for a almost square display, and has a aspect ratio of 5:4, on a rectangular display with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 (aspect ratio of 16:9)?..

I use a 21.5 inch monitor with native resolution of 1920x1080 that has the same 16:9 aspect ratio and using a 1280x1024 resolution makes the text larger and stretched horizontally... but that's not the only option to make displayed text larger... you can configure it to be larger and bold in the Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display settings. I explained the settings in the image.
