I installed openelec KODI and managed to get Cyber Ghost VPN configured, I want to test that does it work or not. I tried to do dnsleak.com test throught Web Viewer, but it doesnt really display the website so I cant run the test.

And yes I'm new to this whole thing, so I need really simple instructions for a way to test that my vpn is working

just looking at the data will help you.
you will be able to see if your connecting to your real ip or your vpn just by looking at source/dest ips.
you will also see what ips and services are being redirected to the routers 0.0.0.0/127,0,0,1 ports. basically showing which services are being filtered by your router and the vpn.
ive used cyberchost and its very good at not leaking your ip. even if you play flash movies in your browser.

you can use a couple of apps to look at your tcp stack...
currports by nirsoft. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html

or
microsofts own tcp/view. (slightly better as its real time monitoring, where as currports relies on user input for the refresh (meaning you often miss quick connections.))
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/tcpview.aspx

i often run 1 or the other when im anon surfing

wow im a dumbass the op is using linux... and i give him windows apps...
find linux alternatives.

In my understanding of vpn, the fact that your public ip is changed doesn't mean that your connection has no e.g. dns leaks or something else.

I could be wrong, but I still think that just changed public IP doesn't tell you that vpn is functioning.

Haha I was wondering why you are linking some windows stuff, but thank you, I will try to use last one. I just don't know what to look for in that program. What exactly will tell me that my connections is secure.
