I just cant make up my mind between getting a ryzen 1500x or a i5 7500 or spending a bit more and getting the i5 7600k or the ryzen 1600, or maybe going for a second hand i7 6700k form ebay, my main concern with buying second hand is i am worried it is a bit of a gamble. I play 1080p but alot of CPU intensive games Total war stuff like that.

my specs atm are -
RAM: 16GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper x 1866 (8GB x 2)
CPU: Fx 6300 (OC 4.3)
GPU: R9 270x Hawk (plan on upgrading when gpu prices come back done due to miners)
Monitor: LG E2251 1920x1080
Hard Drive : Western Digital Blue 1TB
PSU: EVGA 600W 80+ Gold
Mother: m5a97 r2.0

if you want to using intel i5 7600k or Ryzen 5 1600, U should change your Mobo and RAM asswell.
and if you want to overclock using "Z270" series mobo if you preffer for intel side, but if you want AMD just using B350 Board is enough and can save your money.
using DDR 4 memory at minimum 3000 Mhz speed for optimal performance.

thanks :D, i am looking forward to it but still i just cant make my mind up do i go with the proven i5 route or jump on the new ryzen in hopes that games use more cores in the future?

Hopes? Games will use utilize more cores later on, many bench shows that more cores give us much stable performance, meaning core counts already starting to affect the gaming performance too
