Help with windows 8 Tab Gone Missing

Hi All
My brother won an Acer Windows 8 Tab from Microsoft for a project he done in college.
His wife was in the hospital with their oldest child and took the tab with them to keep the child occupied.
Upon leaving the hospital and arriving at home she realised she left the tab in the ward under the duvet.
It is running windows 8. She contacted the hospital who are denying anyone finding it.
She is talking about trying to buy another asap without my brother finding out.
I want to double check first is there any way of tracing the laptop through the microsoft account that was linked to windows 8?
As far as I know there were no software like "Prey" or lojack etc running on it.
With windowsphone.com you can trace your windows phone with the built in system but I cant get it to trace the laptop.

Is there any advice on other ways I can try get it back for her?

Only way I can think you have a possible chance of recovery is if the Tab has been registered and you contact the OEM. They "may" be able to help and it may be a long shot but at this point it seems you have nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain if succeeding.

If the tab wasn't registered then I doubt you'll have any way of retrieving it.
