Help me. I have a Gainward Cardex MX400 and every time I load any drivers other than the windows basic PCI video drivers my machine starts locking up. I heard that network card problems sometimes cause this problem. My net card is the Realtek RTL8139(a). Everything works fine until I load drivers. I have tried the 12.41, 12.90, and the 7.52 that came with the card. Help me.
Everything else:
Epox 8K7A
Mushkin PC2100 RAM
Athlon 1.2ghz@ 1333
300W UL Power Supply

If I were stupid, I would pay twice as much for a processor that is slower too. It's o.k.

Do you have it set to PNP OS-NO in BIOS? Do you have the network card in the last PCI slot?
I heard there was a problem with a certain network card on similar systems, but I don't know if yours is the one.

Try updating the drivers for the motherboard. Also, make sure that any old drivers for your computer are deleted.

If it works for you then don't fix it.
