I was trying to load some linux distros on to usb sticks did it but I was getting annoyed that I could not read the dirs. on ext2 filesystems so I loaded an app called ext2fsd-0.66 so I could read and edit some of the files on the sticks

Just after this windows went crazy bananas the display driver crashed in the middle of my previously perfectly stable game

got weird symptoms like it takes about 5 minutes to load the display settings applet for windows to change the screen resolution

Can't right click to create a new folder; if I right click and select new folder nothing happens

other random symptoms usb just stopped responding & I couldn't type anything eg if I unplug the kyb and try another it's still
it takes about 5 minutes to reboot the system

can't boot into safe mode

if I run sfc windows says it found corrupted files but can't fix them

any clues how to fix? It takes too long to run any apps. can't uninstall programs

do not want to reinstall windows

the whole thing is phoo-eyed good and proper by some bunch of twits or another total destablization carnage

tried emisoft emergency malware scanner no detections

disk management doens't load

oddly web browser loads

Does command prompt still work? You probably need to run this in a command prompt with admin rights:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

if it says it "cannot find source files" then you need to mount a copy of the windows 10 installer in explorer that matches your current installed version and run

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess Where "X" is the drive letter where the ISO is located. Simply change the "X" to the correct drive letter

Then run sfc /scannow again and it should be able to fix the files

If DISM fails, a reset wouldn't work either and that reinstall you don't want to run might be only choice left.

in the strictest sense that isn't not the plain *.iso file that is the actual operating system iso

that is the media creation tool yes thank your for the help however

I cannot run apps on my system right now

therefore I need just the ISO by itself that I can download directly to a dir

and then maybe I can get sfc going

Where is the actual real iso all by itself without any apps because I can download stuff my browser seems to be working but nothing else is.

problem not fixed

if there was a direct download for the iso i would not need a working computer anyway the computer is working windows is not working

'scuse me while I go google it.
#

select download

windows 10
windows 10kn
windows 10n
windows 10 mind your language

?

how do I determine what version of windows 10 ?

is there a link to the windows 10 determination tool?

I think the ISO includes all the patches so no, its not just a vanilla ISO, it is the latest version. Alternately it just includes latest full version released in November and the patches you get after install gather the rest. If you were using this with DISM, I know it also access windows update so likely it uses both to create big picture.

Normally when I show people that link I intro it by saying you need to create it on another PC but I didn't as I assumed it was obvious. The media creation tool gives three choices, update current PC, create USB or create DVD. It does it all. It doesn't just give you an ISO and assume you know what to do with it.

Yes but the app doesn't run on my pc right now as windows is totally garbled on my system I can't run it can't even format a disk but if I just had the iso I could have run sfc

the point I am trying to make is escaping some people

What version is it

k kn or mind your language or plain?

Does the settings menu still work?

If you can't get ISO the next best choice is a reset.

Try settings/update & security/recovery/reset this PC
2 choices, keep files and settings (files being library folders mainly), or wipe it all
either choice, PC will restart and should reinstall win 10

I found settings

ok I selected the plain version

when it's downloaded the iso I will try sfc scannow whatsit

might be a lucky guess the odds are only 1 in 4

something else weird is going on as well

every so often there is like a blink on the screen like a dos window is opening and closing like really fast

Oh yeah I'm running windows 10 64 bit pro

but I still don't know if its

plain K KN or mind your language

Ok so I just downloaded the iso and I've placed it in the root of my storage drive

doesn't work .

Because I copied my usb drive to a folder called win10setup before I used it for my linux distro

That gets me there where it says you can use windows update to repair system files but it does not actually offer any commands you can physically type that would actually cause that to happen

Not if you just reset the thing and then have to remember all the file paths to your app data to back it up

well I just double clicked setup after a couple of restarts into 'recovery advanced mode' failed to boot into safe mode

now it's checking for updates having randomly worked after randomly not working earlier.

uh oh

spoke too soon

now it's randomly stuck with that swirly bubbly thing at 11%

oh wait no it's gone to 12%

everything is intact

filesystem restored

not bad for the bad old days

RoFL after running windows setup but uninstalling the ext2app tho.. windows can read my ext2 drives
