Hello everyone. My Birthday is just around the corner, and I am looking to buy the R9 295X2 Radeon card. I know nothing about computers, I just like having one that can play games on max settings at 1080p. My current monitor is a BENQ 120hz 27 inch and I love it. I am currently using a radeon 7970 3 gig card overclocked edition, but I want to upgrade. I want to have a graphics card that can easily support 1440p resolution when I upgrade my monitor in the near future. I was wondering is it worth buying the R9 295X2? I was thinking that or 2 780ti's Nvidia SLI. I only have a Corsair 850 wat HX professional series power supply, and I don't really want to have to buy another power supply if I don't need to. My computer is your standard PC with no fancy extras. I have 1 SSD and 3 hard drives. I also use noctua NH-U14S CPU Cooler. Anyway I am worried if I go out and buy the Radeon 295X2 or 2 780ti's I wont have the right connectors, but I should. Anyway would love some feedback from more intelligent people please. Thank you so much for reading. Take care!

Solution

Yes, AMD has locked users out of the fan controls on the 295x2.

Shadowplay.
Hey zazally, for your own good, I removed your facebook link. That seems like maybe too much info for the general world wide public to view. You can edit your post to put it back in if you wish, but I wanted to caution you first.

You seem pretty darn happy with your new birthday gift. Congratulations.

Hi zazally,

if you have already purchase the sapphire 295x2, congrats and welcome to the club.
enjoy the new speed (and problems).
I would however recommend a better PSU, something in the range of 1000w+.
I know many in the net said a good 850w should be okay, but my humble feeling, running the2 of these cards myself, it can pull close to 700w by itself, and heat up the actual PCIe connectors due to its over-specs power ratings. factor in the rest of the system, even barebones, you would be running the PSU close to its maximum limit. Imagine running these all night for BF4 MP.
Rather than having a problem later with a $1500 card, buy a good 1000w PSU eg CM v1000 for $230 would be a good idea. You will better headroom later when you want to overclock!

Cheers and good luck.

LOL at the haters. You wish you had this card. As other people said its worth upgrading your power supply. AMD's reference material states you need a PSU dishing out 28A per 8 pin connector and 50A between both. That together with the rest of the components in your system should be bringing that PSU to its knees at load.

In reality you're better off using a PSU with a large single 12V rail design.
