I was thinking about upgrading my computer, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/czkQ3b <--- This is my current build, and this is what i wanted to upgrade to https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9sBN7W . I was thinking about keeping my graphics card and just upgrading my processor. I'm not sure what I would need to upgrade on my pc because I want to play and record games at 1920x1080/144hz with no issue. (I currently get around 40-50fps on a game called "Rust" and It gets worse when i record)
I'm from The US and my budget is around 1kish, but I want to spend the least I can. Any advice on What to buy/do to my current build/"dream" build.

Solution

Right the only thing you can upgrade to on that platform is the 4790K or 4770K both of which are expensive for what they are. However your GPU and CPU are pretty balanced. Cheapest way to go about it would be a B450 board and a 2600 with new RAM. Should cost around 300 then you could get say a Vega 56 for 250-300 or a 5700/5700XT for 400-500 if I remember pricing correctly. Sell your old parts for like 150-200 for a total cost of like 650 max.

(you’ll struggle with 3GB of VRAM in modern titles on mine I’m using min of like 4 in all but esports titles maxed out)

But if you're playing rust & other games that arent super demanding you might want to go for a gtx 1660ti, it runs around $270-300 but you wont get a solid 144hz, it's going to be anywhere from 90-150 on rust, with an rx 5700xt you'll have a solid 144hz @ 1080p

You will need DDR4 RAM as well if you switch to a current platform. The only thing you can reuse from your current built is the 1tb SSD and the case that you didnt mention. The 1060 you have will limit the 9700k. Here is what your list should look like...
