Is it worth going 11th gen i5 now for gaming or should I go for 12th gen intel ?
I really don't need the latest system. I'm just going to be gaming. That's all.
I've used an i5-3470 till today. However it has run its miles now and I'm looking to upgrade.

Yes, yes I know different sockets.
But is it worth going 11th gen intel now or should I just add more money and go 12th gen intel? Prices are dropping now locally with regards to 11th gen.

I would skip 11th gen. Power draw is too high for what they do, especially when comparing to 12th gen, or also 10th gen. Do you need a new system immediately? Later this year, 13th gen will come out. Better performance again than Alder Lake, and if you don't care for that, Alder Lake shoud drop in price then with the option to drop a Raptor into the existing Intel 600 board, an option completely missing from 11th gen boards. An i5-12400 on a B660 board would be a pretty nice step up from that Z590 and a 11600k, unless you really want to OC. The B660 boards are in the same price range as your Z590 and the 12400 should cost somewhere around $200.

Note how the 12400 beats even the 11700k in gaming benchmarks.
