i have updated my bios under windows meaning it updatesd bios during woindows then it tells u to restard then u start with new bios but i can also do it with DOS

are they the same? does it even matter?

i have a asrock motherboard and can use flash utiliy aswell but doing it under windows is easist?

Does not matter.
I do it in Windows.

Only reason I would not do it in windows would be if the system was unstable, you do not want a system crash half way through! Also don't have any programs open when you do it.

Did my Asrock a few months ago using the windows utility, worked perfectly and was quicker than I expected.

never flash in windows, way too many problems across the board for many people

DOS or if the motherboard as an onboard utility in the bios, though for the dos make sure you use a bootable DOS (either floppy, cd, or usb), the command line in windows is not a DOS environment meant for flashing

^ +1.

Every motherboard has its own BIOS software to allow you to flash from floppy or USB at boot. Typically, you will see this pop up during the BIOS screen upon boot. Better this way...you don't want the flash to bomb out on you mid-way.
