do most people keep the 500 MB 'System Reserved' partition on their drives?...the one that stores your Boot Manager and BitLocker files...when doing a clean install I always prevent it from being created in the first place by using diskpart (to create a new partition)...is it better to just let Windows create that partition?

Solution
In legacy boot systems that is possible.
But in UEFI boot systems, bootloader needs to be placed in special EFI system partition.
Yes - it's better to have a separate bootloader partition.
If it gets corrupted and you need to reformat it, then OS partition stays intact in a separate partition (not affected by any problems in bootloader partition).
Also multi-boot configurations are much easier to manage with separate bootloader partition.

but even if you create your own partition and don't have the 'System Reserved' partition those Boot files just get copied into your main system partition...
