High cpu temperature for a long time

Hello,

i've kept my cpu near a heat source for over a month or so, and it stayed at 85-90-95 degrees Celsius. i have moved it away now, but with minor use it gets up to 70 degrees and works sluggish.
is the processor deteriorated ? is the thermopaste deteriorated (i really don't think so, but still asking as i am a hardware noob).

If it's a Core2 system, it should have gone into thermal shutdown.

Be nice to know what you actually have in your system. You could have issues due to the high heat, and not just the CPU, maybe the mobo or PSU.

Tell us more. making a sig like many have listing your stuff helps all of us when troubleshooting by remote.
