So guys, i have a 3570k with an h80i on it at the moment
let me tell you what happened. I had the a coolermaser 240mm water cooler on it (cant remember exact one) but the pump died, causing my pc to shut down due to high cpu temp (went over 100).
Now needless to say i replaced the thing that day and was pissed off but thankful my computer still worked.
Now here is where it gets interesting. Beforehand, with even a 812 evo, i could overclock quite easily, and even with the coolermaster water cooler i had the processor running at 4.5 and temps never getting over 74
Now, with my h80i, my load temps sit around 70 at stock. I know this to be quite high for this cooler (and i have applied thermal paste quite correctly if i do say so).
My curiosity is of the thermal paste below the heat spreader of the cpu itself. Is it possible that the initial overheat ruined the thermal paste on the heat-spreader? as pressing with a moderate amount of force on the h80 mount brings temps back down to under 60.
i have done all i can to mount the h80 properly, and everything is tightened properly (have tried reinstalling, cleaning and reapplying thermal paste each time) and am not getting any luck
I REALLY don't want to have to de-lid my cpu to go back to my previous safe overclocks, as i really can't afford it if i screw up...
(also i cleared cmos and all motherboard settings to change cpu back to stock, so it's running at the correct voltages for stock)
what do i do????
