Dear All: i've been running a home build Win 7 machine for 3 years or so without major issues - good machine! over the last 2 months or so, i've noticed that there is a consistent 13% CPU usage by usb3mon.exe

often, by rebooting, this goes away and the system is idling once again at its normal 99% system idle state. good thing!

however, starting today, oddly, i restarted several times and this "usb3mon.exe" would not go away!

i'm wondering if there is a reason?

i am not using anything that ought to hog resources, and i certainly don't see any reasons why this is so persistent today, as opposed to only sometimes here, sometimes not, as was previously the case. just a note: i was not able to control whether or not it was showing up on Task Manager using 13% CPU previously either, but even if it were, a reboot would almost always no longer have it booted up. Today, however, it is staying there, using 13% CPU usage, for no reason that i can think of. I have no idea what is different today than before today.

May i ask if anyone has any ideas as to how to correct this situation?

I realize that 13% CPU usage isn't crippling, per se. However, 13% CPU usage for no apparent reason is disconcerting.

Avast is used (free version), as is Spywareblaster and Spybot, so the system should be reasonably protected against malware/viruses.

Thank you all in advance.

Spybot in my books in a no no sould only be used for emergencs. This is a resouce hog.

I would all so suggest on doing a full systems scan.

usb3mon.exe relates to your flash drivers. If you have flash drives plugged in run a scan on them as well you could have downloaded some thing and stored some malware or virus in them.

My security.Malwarebytes Pro and AVG Pro internet security,

From what i read Spyware blaster is out dated as welll.I would rather you go with SUPERAntiSpyware or SAS for short it is more updated then those two combined.

With firefox ad ons.
