high Cpu usage

The other day I put in my new gpu the rtx 2060. The first thing i saw was the terrible performance i got when playing BFV. Then the same for war hammer vermin tide 2. I then booted up Rainbow 6 siege and was shocked to see very improved performance over my last card, the gtx 1060. I am now almost certain that my cpu is being the problem. The I5 8400 can use over 50% just on google! Sometimes just even opening task manger use 70% cpu usage! I am running a virus scan as I speak, any advice to help me out?

First, before making any conclusions. Make sure you ran DDU and did a full clean installation of the Nvidia drivers. And you didn't just reinstall the driver or use the same driver install when you swapped cards.

I did use DDU and ran a clean uninstall before hand and got the same results. The first time i installed drivers i used geforce experience, before i used the drivers on Nvidia's website here:https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Geforce expereince is fine. So that shouldn't be a problem.

What did your virus scan say?

So when you say 70% CPU usage, is it consistent? or is it spiking to 70% only?

The virus scan came up clear. The problem is that the cpu will easily jump to 20%/30% while idle, and hit 100%/90% in most games.

Quite a few. i have CAM, iCUE, McAfee, oculus software, a few more that don't use much. Random apps every now and then use way to much, like McAfee will use 30%-50% for some reason.

Ah McAfee still up to its old behavior. Try not running mcafee temporarily and see if performance improves.

If so, I suggest a better antivirus like Webroot. I use webroot and it is super good when it comes to resource consumption.

I don't think it's anything like that. I am just going to take the whole pc to a computer store this afternoon. 🙁
