Windows 11 21H2 22000.376
980 PRO 4B2QGXA7
amd 21.10.2

I just put in this new drive not long ago(first 980 died), installed windows 11 Fresh. Not a ton of issues so far.

This might be an outlier data point.
Today I went to the optional AMD Driver that created an issue with gaming so rolled back 21.10.2 (ended up reinstalling).

System is using 300-400MB/sec.

Things I have tried so far:

Rebooting
windows update (no updates)
Setting virtual memory
Disabling the windows search service
Disabling the sysMain service
Disabled the windows telemetry service
Checked windows driver update for the 980 pro says up to date (i know the 970 had its own driver), but this driver says 6.21.2006. 10.0.22000.1 for the NVME/SSD driver.
Ran Scan Disk
Ran default windows AV
Changed to High performance under power options

Pretty sure this is more of a recent issue, cause I keep task manager open a good bit, but never seen it this high.

I have recently updated the Samsung firmware not too long ago.

Still trying some things, I'm pretty sure its not always been like this, and did the typical google and most of the things in the videos etc. The kernel is busy doing something.

***Minor update, now its down to 50mbs second for a short time, then right back to 380/mbs
I did install borderlands 3 yesterday.

Thanks for the suggestions.

System is the name of the process...
I'm leaning toward windows bug or windows11/driver issue.
there are better malware writers out there that easily disguise a file as a system OS file.
and concerning Windows 11 protection, many haven't been at it long enough to provide adequate anti-virus / malware scanning software yet.

but i have also seen a great many users over the last short while complaining about these types of issues in Windows 11;
some with CPU clocks not reaching Core BIOS values,
disks running like yours or at 100% for no reason,
GPUs only reaching ≤10% usage or constantly running at 100%,
many different problems with this beta OS they've released.

make a backup, reinstall Windows 10 or return to any...
System is the name of the process, which in my understanding corresponds to the kernel of the OS.

Here is the picture:

I ran the built in AV.
Now I"m running Hitman for a 2nd opinion.
I use chrome (always update), always patch. Use several adblockers. I don't click links or install random software.

Update

HitMan Pro found a 5 cookies, but nothing out of the normal.
Malwarebytes scanned as well, https://ibb.co/DDH5NwS

I'm leaning toward windows bug or windows11/driver issue.

make a backup, reinstall Windows 10 or return to any available system image still around, and see if the issue remains.
if not, the disk is fine.
if so, it would lead more towards an issue with the disk itself.

Yea I thought about just going back to windows 10. Brand new 980 Pro (NOV 17th). Diagnostic scan in Samsung says drive is good. Check disk did not find anything bad.

I really think its just windows 11 growing pains. Windows 10 was super rock solid for me and had really good luck.

The pain of doing a format/reinstall (that part is quick and easy). My dad is on another drive so that is easy too. Just reinstalling my apps and doing any custom stuff is a pain. Always seems like it takes several days to get back to "baseline".

Honestly the only reason I went to windows 11 was my last drive died (Bad sectors), and I thought new drive, its been out for a little bit, sure why not. Maybe that was a mistake lol.

I do appreciate your input.

Just reinstalling my apps and doing any custom stuff is a pain. Always seems like it takes several days to get back to "baseline".
one reason why one of the main sermons preached here is to keep everything backed up regularly.
external drives, HDDs, docks, etc have gotten so much cheaper over the last few years there is really no excuse not to have multiple backups of OS, personal files, and everything else that is a pain to try and restore after loss.

I do have a mirrored data drives, reinstall windows then I do document redirection. I also do backup's to external drives of all files.

I used to keep disk images using an imaging software such as Ghost/Arconis, but quit doing it cause unless you update that image with incremental updates, when you restore from the image you have so many freaking updates, and I hardly ever used it I didn't' see the value. (as windows matured over time)

I'm open to suggestions of a good/better way of doing disk incremental images for the "c" drive and don't mind paying if its good software.

Well I think I overlooked something simple.

My mirrored drives for data are doing a resyncing (not for sure why), but that is why all the drive activity I"m guessing.

I'll see once the resync of the software mirror is complete if that settles down to what it should.

My mirrored drives for data are doing a resyncing (not for sure why), but that is why all the drive activity
could be the software just isn't functioning properly with 11 and/or detecting data changes that shouldn't be constantly rewritten.
I'm open to suggestions
i still use Acronis True Image. just keep it on a bootable DVD to avoid all of it's system processes.
every couple weeks or so, depending on how much has changed, i run incremental updates to my entire OS drive image
and user files, application settings, etc on a separate image for a smaller restore option for a fresh OS install when absolutely necessary(changing motherboards, etc).
