High Download/Upload Speed, High Ping

So recently we got a new Modem from Time Warner Cable (who is terrible) and it can't reach my office with 30mbps download when it used to before. (It is the same modem brand/model and there has been no changes to the house) I had to move my whole setup across the house, but I didn't mind now that I can 30mbps download and 5mbps upload. But when my kids are in an online game, or I'm talking with customers, my ping increases to over 200 and stays that way. My download speed is usually around 30mbps and my upload is around 5mbps like I stated before. We've clarified that it isn't the game servers or my clients, and we've reset the modem and got a new one, that didn't fix it. So is there anything I can do to try and fix it? Thanks for the help

Have the checked the cable wiring in your house for any damage? We had that issue 6 months ago. It looked like there was a power surge and it burned the wires, but didn't full break them. Also is this a wired connection or wireless you are using?
