i have 3 80mm thermaltake case fans and its a little loud (about 32dba or at least thats what it says on the box)
If you have 3 fans with a noise level of 32dBA each, you get a higher sound level. Here's a basic table for adding decibels:
Diff between dBs: 0-1, 2-3, 4-8, 9+
Add to higher dB: 3dB, 2dB, 1dB, 0dB
32 - 32 = 0
Add 3dB to 32dB
35 - 32 = 3
Add 2dB to 35dB
So, for three 32dBA fans, your sound level would actually be 37dBA.
You can do this for all of the components in your case.
Either that, or get a SLM (Sound Level Meter) and just take a measurement.
I wonder, though . . . how do these companies arrive at the decibel ratings they give their fans?
Open air? or in case?
1 inch away? or 4 feet away?
These are variables in the equation.
Moral of the story?
Multiple low-level dBA fans may end up being louder than 1 mid-level dBA fan.
Second moral of the story?
Screw the fans . . . watercool!
