Hi all

I am interested in making a high end pc and need your expert suggestions about the same. My budget is around 4,000 USD all inclusive (plus or minus 500 USD). I am located in India so the prices could be on the higher side then what is available in the US. Few points that I would like to mention are:

- I can get the CPU now and use it with my BenQ XL2411T or Dell U2414H monitor for the time being. I say this because Asus PB287Q still isn't available in India and even when it does, I doubt that the prices would be around 650$ (the US price). I am guessing it should be around 800-900$. Other good and reliable 4k gaming monitors, I don't know about that so please suggest.

- I read that maybe GTX 880 with 4gb vram would launch by the end of September. I am thinking of waiting for the same because I don't want to buy a GTX Titan or twin 780ti's right now and upgrade them few months later.

- I know that one graphic card cannot support 3 4k monitors and I am ready to do SLI/Crossfire. I want to know whether I will be better off with 2 or 3 graphic cards. My brand preference for Graphic cards would be ASUS (based on friends' suggestions). Never done it before, so detailed help would be more than welcome.

- Currently, I use an Alienware x51 (purchased this year itself) with GTX 670 2gb vram, i7 4770 and 16gb ram. I also use an Alienware 17 (purchased a couple of months ago) with GTX 880m, i7 and 16gb ram with 256 gb ssd+2tb hdd. I have always been a fan of Alienware and I have till today always preferred to purchase ready to buy systems. I normally stay busy with work so have always considered building a rig a tiresome job. But not now. Now, I am ready to build a super high end pc which will last me for years to come.

- Therefore, as you would now understand, I can build a CPU right now keeping in mind that main purpose is to game on a Triple 4k monitor setup. Graphic cards and the monitors I will buy as and when they become available here.

From what I have read on the internet, I have roughly made a list of parts that I wish to purchase:
Intel Core i7 4820k or 4770k
Asus Maximus vii (don't know the difference between Formula, Gene, etc. please explain)

For RAM, SSD, HDD, PSU, etc. and other parts, I am open to all suggestions. Also, it might sound stupid but I don't know how to overclock and have never done it before. But with this build, I would like to experience the same. That is why I chose Asus Maximus vii.

Expected purchase of :

CPU (excluding Graphic cards) : end-september

Graphic cards (inclined towards gtx 880 which is yet to launch) : end october

4k Monitors for gaming (no designing, PS, etc.) : November or December (whenever they get available)

I would appreciate any feedback from you guys. Thanks in advance!

Hi Bro

Ok, I think I have mentioned before (I suppose) that I am not going to purchase 3x4k monitors right now or heck, even one at the moment. Simply because I am going to invest my savings in a better PC first of all. You are right that they won't cost cheap at all as right now, the Asus 32" 4k monitor in India retails for about 3700$ lol! I can use my BenQ XL2411T and buy 2 more monitors to have a perfect 3 monitor setup @ 144hz till 4k monitors become more affordable.
-- I think you should not be upgrading in such short time. This monitor was released only this year right? Or at least you should have bought it this year. Just get 2 more. That should set u back around 1K.

Btw would you recommend a better 144hz monitor than BenQ...
Yes, I will buy one graphics card now and keep adding more one at a time as and when the budget would allow. Therefore, my main purpose of choosing the x99 platform is 3 way or 4 way sli/crossfire. So I am totally open to it and plan to fulfil the same by next year with at least 3 or 4 way sli/cfx. I am guessing the performance would be beast 😀

Thanks again Neil. I'm actually not considering 5930k vs 5960x. The difference is almost double in actual cost. Which one will you pick?

Update: I recently bought a gopro hero 3+ black edition. So I've been playing around with that and my nikon d7000. If I start editing videos as a personal hobby, I guess the 5960x would benefit more. What's your take on that?

Is there anyway to convince you out of 3 x 4K monitors? If you are going to do alot of gaming I would suggest a 144 hz monitor instead. 4K is not mainstream at the moment, in the sense that it is not mature yet. And I do not think the budget is big enough for achieving this too. If you go a triple 144hz monitor it should blow you away. 1 of these in fact is big enough if you get a 27 inch. I mean 27 inch is huge.

To solve the lag problem, I would wait for early 2015, when monitor brands release the Free Sync technology. This is the same as G-sync, just that free sync should be cheaper than G-sync.

I would go with 1 R9 295x2. Cross fire / sli looks cool, but looks like you have pushed the system already don't you think? Feels right to me you start with 1, when its not capable, then add 1 more. These 295x2 at the moment are unbeatable at its price, takes up 1 pcie slot, future proof in a way, with room to put in 1 more later.
But you have to get over 3 4K setups first. If you check out the web on 4K single monitor builds, you are already looking at sli/cf builds. So what does this mean, you need 6 graphix cards? (obviously i know they don't scale well and is not possible anyway). 1 way or another you are attempting something not possible at the moment.

Also you may want to save some money on the 1TB of SSD. 256gb should be enough. Use as boot drive, os. Then you can go with a 1-3TB Hard disk drive to store your photos and vids.

I am waiting like you are for x99. Going for a Asus deluxe MoBo, ripjaws ddr 16g, intel 5630K.

Btw would you recommend a better 144hz monitor than BenQ XL2411T? I am using it, I know, I really like it. But sadly enough, my Alienware x51 doesn't have much horsepower to drive it to it's max. This is one reason why I am upgrading. So if you can suggest me other better options, I'll appreciate that because anyhow otherwise, I will be spending on buying 2 more of BenQ XL2411T's. *I have never used a 27" monitor but I am flexible, no 1440p please*

Again I would mention that R9 295x2 retails for 2100$ locally in India. Is it a better buy than 780ti in 2 way sli?

Just to mention to you guys, the new processors and x99 mobos are available since last night here and I am too excited. Will order my parts today most probably. One last question, I love the Cooler Master Cosmos II and want to purchase the Corsair AX1500i. But the sad part is, I have to wait till first week November for this PSU to be available. After this PSU, I really like the Corsair AX1200i but I doubt that in future, it will be able to handle 3-4 graphic cards or dual R9 295x2's (500W power consumption per 295x2). So, if I buy 1200i now and the Cosmos II, I am guessing it will fall short and I might have to buy another PSU in future which the Cosmos II won't fit. Therefore, one more option I could find was the Corsair 900D case as it can fit 2 PSU's. So am I better off with 900D and 1200i at the moment or are there any other alternatives that you would suggest?

Thanks and cheers! :)

-- thats fine too. 2 of these come up to $1280 based on amazon prices. The R9 295x2 is at $999. So I still suggest the r9 295x2. Can you try to go to amazon, then click the amazon global eligible on the left panel. Not all can ship overseas.
See if they can send to india. In my country, the price is the same as india's about 2100 like you said.

1000W - 1200W is good enough. In future when u want to add 1 more, you can use 2 PSUs. The adaptor is only about $32 with shipping. I just bought this adaptor. I doubt you will be doing anytime soon.

Thanks and cheers! :)

Hi,

Since the newer versions of 4K TV's are coming with HDMI2 supporting the bandwidth needed for 4K, and as well as GTX970 supporting HDMI2, did you consider that approach instead of multiple monitors? The problem with using 4k TV's earlier was due to HDMI1.4, although supporting 4K, didn't have enough bandwidth to run it, but that seems not an issue anymore. I can't find anyone who has tried it and wrote about their experience. Only people using 4K TV's at 30 hz for the bigger desktop.

Regards, Nicolai

Hi Nicolai, thanks for your input. Actually I am not that comfortable with gaming on TV's and secondly, locally, the prices are sky high for 4k TV's, can't find one at a decent price. I checked today and found out that Asus PB287Q is available in india at 770$ already. So at this price point, it's hard to beat keeping in mind that I want to have a triple monitor setup (3xAsus4k would be much much cheaper than 3x4kTV's). So I would like to stick to PC monitors only for now :)

Guys, what do most gamers pick when choosing a triple monitor setup- IPS panel or TN Panel? I have checked on YouTube etc. and found that many people are using the IPS panels.

NEW UPDATE: 2 days ago I ordered the RSeat RS1 racing simulator cockpit from RSeat Australia along with basic accessories like keyboard and mouse tray, buttkicker attachment, etc. and also a triple monitor stand which can hold 3 displays upto 32". So if you see the product, you can get an idea about how far I would have to sit from the monitors. Sure, I will eventually have 3 4k monitor setup but not now (price and budget constraint, but already mentioned that).

Like I said before, I will use one of my existing BenQ XL2411Z or Dell U2414H and buy 2 more from either of them. PC Noob recommended that I should buy 2 more BenQ's. What do you all think?

I really like the BenQ (144hz @ 1ms) but it's just that the bezels are just too much for a triple monitor setup. The Dell U2414H is slick looking with minute bezels but 8 ms response time.

None of my friends have a triple monitor setup so I am unsure how the viewing angles would be on a TN BenQ panel. Any ideas?

FWIW, I obviously wish to play racing sim titles but some FPS as well.

Regards.

Aakash Narang, how long are you gonna' flog this fantasy post? Having delusions of grandeur, are you?

You my friend have been immensely helpful in all your posts (err just 1 meaningless post!!). You can stay here or opt out to leave this discussion because anyways, it seems that you don't own a system like the one I'm talking about, and I do believe that you might never be able to blow this amount of cash so why not take a hike?

I'm new to pc gaming and have the money to spend. All I'm looking for is constructive opinions or criticism. But if you can't help in any of these situations, you can obviously move on. Nobody's asking for crappy posts. Peace out.

Hi I have been busy with my own system.

I say continue with 144hz monitor. Simple rule really. 144hz for gaming. 60hz for anything else. I suppose you are serious about your games and hence many questions. For some, 60hz for gaming is enough, I reckon, not for you and especially since you already use a gaming monitor.

IPS technology is rather new, and max at 60hz. 1 day there will be IPS at 144 hz perhaps. But not now. Next time you can decide 4k or ips or ips 4k for gaming at 144hz 1ms response time perhaps. The day is not today.

a quick update about my own system because i advised you to go with the 295x2. For me its a little different situation.
I am only doing 1 monitor, which i have chosen the rog swift. My card of preference previously was the ares iii.

But now I have gone infact with 2 gtx980s.
I have done this for a couple of reasons.
1. This now means I do not need 2 power supply due to its low power consumption.
2. the initial reviews show it comparable to 780ti on a new maxwell chip
3. solves my headache of waiting till next year for adaptive/free sync monitor.
4. and initial reviews were done without overclocking.
Anyway, i got 2 of them and after overclocking i could get some good performance.

So i just want to clarify this to you, so I dont get accused of getting something else and then advising you to go with another! 😉

The cons are i need tear these up and install waterblocks later.

Cheers
